Located in Front Royal, Skyline Caverns has wowed visitors since its opening in 1939. Millions have smoothed underfoot the path through the caverns to pave your chance to explore this underground world. Cavern explorer and discoverer, Walter S. Amos, unearthed the fantastic rock chamber in 1937 while geologists worldwide brimmed with anticipation.Today, you can explore the caverns on guided tours, meaning you won’t get lost and you won’t miss anything important! There’s plenty to see like a 37-foot underground waterfall, very rare anthodite clusters, underground streams, an outdoor botanical garden, nature trail, and more!
Cavern tours are available in one-hour tour formats where a trained guide will steer you through the various chambers informing you of all the intrigue the caverns provide. Come, find fascination at Skyline Caverns! Here’s what you’ll find in the caverns.
Things are a bit different underground. The air is thinner, the temperature is a static 54⁰F, and the walk may not be for everyone. Due to the temperature, it is a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. If anyone in your party has difficulty with stairs, you should know that there are 12 steps to begin the tour and 61 steps at the end. As a result, the tour is also not wheelchair accessible.
