shenandoah autumnfest Every fall the Shenandoah Valley, rich in its agricultural history along the Shenandoah River, celebrates the harvest season by showing off its many local products and producers through attractions like the Harrisonburg Farmers Market and great annual events like the Shenandoah Autumnfest. While a longstanding fundraising event held at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds, Autumnfest is one of the greatest parties of the year featuring local bands, amazing barbecue, beer, wine and whiskey, and fun events for the whole family.

If you’re looking for a fun outdoor time in this gorgeous Virginia region when the summer temperatures have eased their grip, head out for the Shenandoah Autumnfest on October 17th. Tickets for the event are only $7!

Shenandoah Autumnfest Events

  1. Kansas City BBQ Contest – Registered competitors will partake in the southern tradition of the grueling BBQ competition where devoted slow cookers will work overnight to prepare for this delicious event. Between 2 and 4 pm attendees will be able to taste and vote for their favorite dishes served up through this great event, and the winners will be announced at 4:15 pm.
  2. 3rd Annual Wood Splitting Contest – Another great southern country tradition will take place at 1:30 pm where some of the burliest Virginians can show up to show off their muscles. If you’re looking for a backcountry experience in Shenandoah Valley, this will be the pinnacle.
  3. Beer, Whiskey, and Cigars – As the featured bands wash you in the earthy sounds of soothing bluegrass and country from 11 am to 4 pm, many of the men will be drawn to enjoy a great selection of beer, whiskey, and cigars. This is like your man cave at home except there is live music and undoubtedly beautiful women at your side.
  4. Wine Tasting – By purchasing an extra wine ticket you can enjoy tasting the many vintages from the local wineries who will be here for the event. Shenandoah Valley wineries are known for producing some great wines!

Official Shenandoah Autumnfest Bands

The Rogue Farmers are from Woodstock, Virginia and are a gypsy Americana and alternative bluegrass band, otherwise known as farm jazz comprised of entirely acoustic instruments ranging from guitar and fiddle to mandolin and dog house bass. Their music is lively, heartfelt and downright beautiful as they capture the spirit of the land.

Five of a Kind has been together for over 30 years of exceptional bluegrass from the Shenandoah Valley. If you visited the area before, chances are you’ve seen this amazing talent perform with their old-timey sounds that will get your feet stomping and your heart singing along with Five of a Kind.
