For an area with such rich agricultural history, it is only natural that the Harrisonburg Farmers Market would be such a well-loved and important organization in this beautiful Shenandoah Valley community. Open year-round, the farmers market sells only the best locally produced goods and crafts. Purchasing from these small business owners is a great way to support farmers and artisans in the area.

In the 1950s, a local farmer named Clarence Dellinger decided to sell his organic products in the parking lot of the Harrisonburg Police Station. This was the humble beginning of the modern-day Harrisonburg Farmers Market. An official market was formed in 1979 by another farmer Samuel Johnson, and Dellinger later joined the organization. Town leaders and merchants worked together to make this possible. Though the market had many homes through the last 30-plus years, a permanent residence, known as the Turner Pavilion, was created in 2008.
Now, the Harrisonburg Farmers Market is a leading source for local, sustainably grown produce and other products. Stroll through the market during the summer on Tuesdays and Saturdays in downtown Harrisonburg from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the winter, the market is only open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spend a Saturday morning browsing and enjoy a delicious brunch while hanging out and experiencing the local culture!
